In partnership with the LPCH Heart Transplant Team, our Heart Donor service focuses on rapidly processing donor heart volumes to support the expansion of our donor pool candidates for transplant list patients. This service involves receiving and analyzing donor heart scans from various hospitals, which are often of low quality, necessitating careful handling and processing.

Our heart donor evaluation process involves a comprehensive analysis of donor heart scans, focusing on precise segmentation and dimensional analysis to ensure the best matches for transplant patients. The segmentation includes all critical structures within the pericardial sac, from the heart's apex to key axial points, ensuring a detailed visualization of the heart's anatomy. This process carefully encompasses the heart's major components, such as the posterior wall of the left atrium and the intricate network of pulmonary veins. In assessing the heart's dimensions, we meticulously measure the anteroposterior (AP) distance, taking into account the heart's orientation and rotation, to provide an accurate representation of its size. The right-to-left (RL) distance, marking the heart's widest point, is also evaluated to complete our comprehensive heart size assessment.

Our service's precise and efficient processing aims to offer the Heart Transplant Team essential information that enhances the selection of suitable donor hearts, ultimately contributing to the success of transplant outcomes and enriching the lives of recipients.
